Central Argentina

Closer to Buenos Aires, Argentina's central region encompasses the Pampas, a rich grassland famous for its gauchos (Argentina's cowboys of lore), grand estancias (cattle ranches), and world class beef. San Antonio de Areco, the self-styled capital of all things gaucho, hosts a yearly festival in november.

Along the atlantic coast south of Buenos Aires, Mar Del Plata and other seaside resorts offer beaches, nightlife, and a dose of culture.

To the west of the Pampas is the Cuyo wine country, centered around the city of Mendoza, and flanked to the west by some of the highest peaks in the Andes.

At the center of the central region is Córdoba, Argentina's second city and the key to a region still off the beaten track for most foreign tourists.
