The original flag of Argentina, created in 1812 and missing the central sun figure, is still used—sometimes in conjuction with the official flag (shown above). In 1818 the yellow sun motif was added. The Sol de Mayo (Sun of May) design was borrowed from the first Argentine coin, created in 1813.
